If you’re searching for help with sciatica in Cumbria, chances are you’ve had enough of the pain. That sharp, shooting discomfort down the leg. The strange tingling or numbness. The feeling that even sitting or walking is a challenge. You’re not alone—sciatica is one of the most common problems I see at Your Spinal Health here in Cumbria.
But let me say this up front: there’s no quick fix. And that’s a good thing—because when you understand how your body is trying to heal, you can support it properly and get lasting relief.
Sciatica isn’t a disease—it’s a symptom. It means the sciatic nerve (the longest nerve in your body, running from your lower back down your leg) is irritated or compressed. That can be caused by a range of things: a slipped disc, spinal misalignment, tight muscles in the hips or buttocks, or long-standing inflammation from years of wear and tear.
In short: it’s your body sounding the alarm. My job is to work out why the alarm is going off.
Over the years, I’ve developed a careful, gentle approach to treating sciatica in Cumbria—based on what actually helps people heal, not what looks impressive on Instagram.
Here’s how I work:
Before any treatment, I take the time to really listen to your story. How did the problem start? What makes it worse? What have you already tried? I combine that with a detailed, hands-on assessment of your movement and posture.
I’m not looking for instant pain relief after the first visit—that’s not realistic. What I do look for is a change in your posture or the way you move. That tells me your nervous system is responsive and we’re heading in the right direction.
If there’s no change in posture or body mechanics after the first session, I won’t keep you coming back just for the sake of it. I’ll be honest with you and refer you to whatever I believe will help. That doesn’t happen often—but it’s important to say.
I don’t use cracking or forceful adjustments. In fact, most of the people I see improve faster with subtle, targeted techniques that reduce stress on the spine and support your body’s natural healing. I might work on freeing tight muscles, rebalancing the pelvis, or releasing pressure around the irritated nerve—all without force.
Healing sciatica is more like healing a deep cut or recovering from surgery. It takes time. I’m not just trying to switch off your symptoms. I’m working with your body to help repair the damage and keep you well.
It’s common for people to experience a few strange reactions early on: shifts in pain, tiredness, or soreness in new places. That’s because your body is making a lot of rapid changes. It’s also normal to experience recovery in layers—a bit like peeling an onion. As each level of tension or compensation is resolved, your body reveals the next part of the healing process.
That’s how deep, lasting improvement happens—not through brute force, but by giving your body the right support in the right order.
If you’re in Cumbria and struggling with sciatica, I’d love to help. My goal isn’t just to relieve your pain—it’s to restore your confidence in your body. Whether you’ve just had your first flare-up or have been living with sciatica for years, there is a way forward.
