One of my clients asked me a very interesting question the other day. It was, "If such gentle adjustments can put my spine back into place, why isn't it very easy for my spine to go back out of place?"
The reason for this is that your innate intelligence, your inner wisdom is constantly realigning your spine and trying to get it as close to maximum health as possible.
If you think about it, if this wasn't the case, every time you fell over on the playground at school your spine would be in a completely random position or every time you bent forward to put your shoes on and came back up again, your spine wouldn't realign to its proper position.
The only reason that any sort of health care can work, including surgery, is that your body is trying to get itself back to full health. It is constantly mending and regulating itself - which is why you have to keep eating and drinking.
So the adjustments the chiropractic treatment can be very gentle because we are working with the body's innate desire to get properly straight and properly healthy. So if I can find out what your body is trying to do, it just needs a little nudge in the right direction.
Conversely, if I decided that I am the expert in the white coat and I know exactly where your spine ought to be, I would then have to try and force it into position. Then we would get into a wrestling match and there would be cracking and crunching and so on.
Once your spine has realigned itself with my help, it is reluctant to go back out of place. There is a tendency to drift back to what it's used to because you will have scar tissue or could have disc damage, could have arthritis, your ligaments could have grown to the old shape of your spine. All of this means that you need to be seen more than once in order to realign and retrain the spine. But it is very difficult to put the spine out of line and for you to go back to square one
